NYSD Cross Country - Guisborough 19th November 2006
Sunday 19th November saw Laurence Jackson School, Guisborough host the second round of the NYSD Cross Country league. Richmond and Zetland fielded a team comprised of only 24 athletes on this occasion, as several junior members were invited to attend a regional training session at the EIS in Sheffield. Nevertheless, there were excellent performances throughout all the age groups.
The Under 13 boys kicked off with what is becoming an habitual victory in their race, with Fergus Roberts and Marc Scott leading the way in 2nd and 3rd places. Rob Scott achieved 11th position and Paul Harmison produced a strong run in 17th overall, to round off the winning team. The Under 13 girls had an excellent representation of athletes, with Amy Coulson first Harrier home in 10th position, followed by the trio of Rosie Stirr, Gaby Rawdin and Leanne Ryder all finishing consecutively in 27th, 28th and 29th place. Kerry Robson showed great determination, completing the course in 33rd position and bringing the team in 5th overall.
Hannah Dawson was the sole Richmond and Zetland athlete in the Under 15 girls race, competing well and finishing 17th. The ladies team received a welcome boost with Kelley Haniver finishing 2nd overall and first senior lady, giving the team a great chance. Jo Adams put in another strong performance to take 15th place and newcomer Hannah Phillips made a brilliant debut, taking 22nd position overall. Sarah Gregory was the final team counter and 4th runner home in 28th place, followed by Rosie Adams, making the adjustment of moving up an age group and competing well to finish in 47th. Jane Thornton concluded the ladies race for the Harriers, crossing the line in 62nd position, which proved to be a successful team outing, finishing 3rd overall on the day.

Jon Orange produced another fine performance and was first team member across the line in 8th place and 2nd Vet 1, while Shaun Purkiss put in a convincing run to claim 20th position. Tony Ryder was another athlete performing well to take 45th overall, while Taff Rogers battled on and crossed the line in 59th place. Jim Robinson had another great race to take him to victory in the Vet 3 category again, as well as making 5th counter for the team and taking 72nd, with James Brownfield-Pope rounding off the scoring sextet, not far behind in 76th position. Ray Robson showed that he is performing stronger this season with a top 100 finish in 99th place and Ian Hepworth ran well to complete the proceedings for the men’s team in 107th overall.

Brampton to Carlisle 10M Race - 18th November 2006
WensleyDale Wedge - 19th November 2006
Neil Piper was another member, who had a very busy weekend with his on and off road activities. On Saturday 18th November, he competed in the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race, which saw better conditions than expected, with only a mild headwind and the winner completing the course in 51.30. Neil had a good run, finishing in 414th place from 616 competitors and was 9th in the MV60 age group. There was little time for rest, as he donned his off-road shoes early on Sunday morning to take part in the Wensleydale Wedge. As the title suggests, the course winds for 23 challenging miles over trails in Wensleydale and Neil and wife Liz used their usual walk/run tactics to complete the route in a very respectable time of 5.59 hours.
