Loftus Poultry Run 17th December 2006

After a fairly quiet festive period for Richmond and Zetland Harriers, when events tend to be on the thinner side due to Christmas and New Year celebrations, two athletes have been in action in pretty different conditions. Sarah Gregory took part in the Loftus Poultry Run on Sunday 17th Decemeber, her first outing on this event, over mixed terrain and quite an undulating, muddy and challenging course. Things didn’t go totally according to plan, with a few minor niggles en-route and she finishied as 23rd lady and 176th overall from 487 competitors. However, she was pleased to cross the line in one piece and go into the Christmas break with a race under her belt, completing the course just over the hour mark, with a time of 60.31.

Indoor Track Meetings November- December 2006

Brogan Fraser meanwhile has been busy on the indoor circuit, taking advantage of the winter season to improve her sprint training. Her first meeting was on 17th November at Gateshead, clocking 8.5 seconds over 60m and finishing 4th overall. This was her first ever venture onto an indoor track, which she has found quite different to racing outdoors and has learned that a fast start from you blocks is imperative, due to the often shorter distances. At Jarrow on 7th December Brogan was even better, taking 2nd place with an excellent, improved time of 8.4. Another visit to Gateshead on 21st December, then saw her win her first indoor event over 60m with another clocking of 8.5 seconds, which sees her reach the UK Athletics qualifying standard, despite being only 14 years old, but gaining fantastic experience from competing against much older athletes.
