Shildon Open Track & Field Meeting - 15th April 2007

Several younger Richmond and Zetland athletes competed in the Shildon Open Track & Field Meeting on Sunday 15th April, producing some excellent results from one of the earliest meetings in the calendar. It is a good opportunity for the sprinters and middle distance runners to sharpen their training for the forthcoming season. Ruth Hill and Leanne Shaw made a welcome return to the outdoor track, both taking part and making the finals of the U17 Girl’s sprint events. Leanne claimed 3rd in the 100m with an excellent time of 12.9, while Ruth was a close 5th with 13.2, competing for the first time in this age group. Leanne then went one better, claiming 2nd overall in the 200m in 26.3 and Ruth another excellent 5th place with 27.4. In the same age group, Rosie Adams found her speed over 800m to finish 10th overall, with a swift first outing over the distance, crossing the line in 2.41.3. Sister Jo stepped up to the Senior Ladies category for the first time, also over 800m, finishing a well-deserved 6th with a time of 2.30.6.

Paul Harmsworth

Paul Harmsworth had a very busy afternoon for the Under 13 Boys, competing in no less than 3 events, ranging from the 100m, where he finished a fantastic 4th overall in 15.00, to the 800m where he took 8th place with another excellent clocking of 2.48.4. Not content with that, he also lined up for the Long Jump, where he had his best result, finishing 3rd with a distance of 3.72m. Jamie Jones was another multi-eventer for the Under 11 Boys in one of his first competitions, starting with the 150m, where he finished a highly commendable 13th with a time of 27.5. He then went on to take part in the 600m and showed good potential over the distance, finishing in 2.22.3 and 15th place overall, but his best positioning came in the Cricket Ball Throw, claiming 4th with a distance of 31.71m.

Amy Coulson was glad to return to the track after the winter season and opted for her favoured event of 800m in the Under 13 Girl’s category, in which she finished 6th overall with an excellent time of 2.44.3, before turning her hand to the Long Jump and landing 11th position with 2.75m. Thomas Allen was another athlete displaying his potential on the track, competing over 800m for the Under 15 Boys and promptly taking a fantastic 3rd place in his first outing of the year in 2.14.0.
