Kirby Malzeard 10K & Fun Run - 2nd June 2007

Richmond and Zetland Harrier Rich Hunt and his daughter, Maddy Winzer, were in action recently at the Kirkby Malzeard 10K Road Race near Ripon, both running well and collecting prizes in their respective races. Maddy was first away in the fun run, which covered approximately 3K, where she was 1st under 15 girl in an excellent time of 11.34. Not to be outdone, Rich ran an terrific race in the main 10K event around local roads, where he finished 2nd overall in 33.40, making it a good day all round.

NYSD Track & Field League - Darlington 15th May 2007

The NYSD track and field league continued on Tuesday 15th May, with the second meeting of the season back at Darlington. Richmond and Zetland athletes were in good form, achieving excellent times on the track and distances in the throwing events. There were wins for John Wild in the Men’s Shot Putt with a distance of 9.44m and Doug Roberts in the U17 Men’s 1500m with an excellent time of 4.13.0, while sister Jessie claimed second place over the same distance for the Senior Ladies in 5.04.02. Jon Orange claimed the runner’s up place in the Men’s 1500m event, with a fast pace to finish in 4.14.0, followed by Tad Zaranko in 6th position with 4.42.9 and Shaun Purkiss in 8th with 4.47.2, while sprinter Leanne Shaw finished 2nd overall in the U17 Ladies 100m in 13.0.

Rosie Stirr gained a well deserved 2nd place in the U13 Girls 1500m, finishing in 6.27.5, while team mate Sophie Talbot also claimed 2nd in the Shot Putt with an fabulous throw of 5.75m. The trio of Sam Wood, Thomas Allen and George Robinson were back in action over the 1500m distance, finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively for the U15 Boys, with only 10 seconds separating all three athletes. Paul Harmsworth gained a 2nd place in the U13 Boys 100m, crossing the line in 14.2 as well as 2nd in the Shot Putt; team mates Andrew Parkinson, Marcus Richardson, Connor Fraser and Ben Purkiss all put in solid performances over 1500m in the same age group.

Northern Senior T&F League - Carlisle 2nd June 2007

Nine senior Harriers made the trip further a field to Carlisle on Saturday 2nd June, to compete in the second Northern Senior League meeting. Finishing 5th overall, the ladies team pulled together to cover as many of the disciplines as possible, managing to accumulate 124 points and move the club up a place with participation in the relay events, while the men were rather thin on the ground, scoring only 36 points on the day.

Despite a rather disappointing outcome, there were some strong performances on the day as Kelley Haniver won the 800m event with a swift time of 2.25.5 and collected maximum points in the Hammer, as well as 3rd place in the 1500m, crossing the line in 5.08.3. Sarah Gregory collected 3rd place in the 3000m event by finishing in 12..28.0, in addition to covering all 4 throws and 2 relays. Fiona Hughes meanwhile proficiently covered the sprints and jumps, along with Jenny Fenwick, who ran times close to her PBs in the 200m and 800m. Katie Roberts claimed a win in the 1500m B String in 5.31.1 as well as throwing competently in the Shot Putt and Javelin to gain valuable points.

The men showed some gritty performances on the track, with Jon Orange stamping his mark by winning the 5000m in a fabulous time of 15.48.2, while Shaun Purkiss won the B String in 17.44.51. Ken Harker was well ahead of the field in the 1500m, finishing in a pleasing time of 4.28.3 and Shaun Purkiss once again took maximum points in the B String with 5.12.0. Chris Peacock made a welcome return to the track following injury and claimed a well-deserved 5th place over 800m in a solid time of 2.17.2.
