Young Athletes League - Shildon 24th June 2007
The third meeting of the Young Athletes League took place at Shildon on Sunday 24th June, where there were plenty of strong performances and victories for Richmond and Zetland Harriers’ junior athletes. James King took two well-deserved victories over 200m and 800m in the Under 13 Boys age group, while Paul Harmsworth, Ben Purkiss, Connor Fraser and Marcus Richardson competed impressively in the other track and field events. Carl Murray ran well over 400m for the Under 15 Boys, with a victorious time of 62.5, while Thomas Allen and George Robinson crossed the line in exactly the same over 800m, both running exactly 4.41.4 in an exciting dead heat. Doug Roberts was back to winning ways in the Under 17 Men’s 3000m event, with a fine time of 9.21.5 and team mate Liam Fletcher clocked 2.19.5 over the shorter distance of 800m. There was also an impressive win for Paul Kilsby, eclipsing the rest of the field in the Javelin with a fabulous throw of 33.88m, while Charlie Purkiss contributed to the team effort with strong performances in the Discus and Shot Putt.
In the same age group for the Ladies, Sprinters Brogan Fraser and Ruth Hill wrapped up the 100m and 200m events, with Brogan running 13.6 over the shorter distance and Ruth returning to form with 27.5 over 200m. Jane Thornton performed well over 300m with a 2nd place and a great clocking of 49.3, while Rosie Adams claimed victory in the Discus, as well as 2nd over 1500m with a great time of 5.40.0. Leanne Ryder and Rachel Holloway performed well over the sprint distances for the Under 15 Girls, along with Helen Fletcher, taking on her opponents over 800m. Coming down the age groups, Amy Coulson racked up another victory over her favourite distance of 800m in 2.39.2 for the Under 13 Girls, with Rosy Stirr ably assisting her in the B String, finishing in a time of 2.58.8. Abby Fletcher gained a valuable 2nd place over 1200m in 4.51.4, while Kerry Robson had another good round in the Shot Putt with 5.32m and ran well to clock 23.6 over 150m on the track.

Wheldrake 10K - York - 23rd June 2007
The previous day, Sarah Gregory made the short journey to Wheldrake near York to take part in the 10K road race, which takes in a scenic route through neighbouring woodland and is fairly flat in racing terms. Finishing in a time of 44.50, Sarah was 74th overall from a field of 233 runners and 2nd in the Lady Vets 35 age group on a warm day, where the competitors managed to avoid the earlier downpours.
Rainton Fun Run 24th June and U14 Uphill Fell Running Championships 1st July 2007
Marc Scott has been busy again, both on and off the roads. His latest victory was at Rainton on Sunday 24th June, where he won the 2.5 mile fun run outright, with a fantastic time of 14.15, beating all the other competitors in the field by a comfortable margin, showing that he can still maintain his pace on the roads. Then on Sunday 1st July, Marc changed back to his preferred terrain of the fells, taking part in the English Under 14 Uphill Fell Running Championships on the ever-challenging course over Ilkley Moor. This route incorporates a climb of 660 feet and Marc was in excellent form once again, finishing in 4th place from 27 runners in a time of 12.54.
