Young Athletes League - Gateshead - 22nd July 2007

The fourth meeting of the Young Athletes League took place at Gateshead on Sunday 22nd July, where top performances and victories for Richmond and Zetland Harriers’ junior athletes came in quick succession. Fergus Roberts took an impressive victory over 800m in the Under 13 Boys category, achieving a Grade 1 in the process, with a time of 2.21.31, while Paul Harmsworth, claimed 2nd and 3rd place over 200m and 100m. For the Under 15 Boys, Carl Murray ran well over 100m and 200m, with Scott Wallace for company and Thomas Allen gained a fantastic Grade 2 over 800m in 2.11.48. Sam Wood meanwhile, was voted athlete of the match for his performance over 1500m, also with a Grade 2 time of 4.33.13, with George Robinson crossing the line not far behind, winning the B String in 4.39.85 for a Grade 3. Aaron Mornington took the honours with a magnificent throw in the Javelin of 34.92m and Scott Murray threw well in the Discus, while Jack Young cleared up in the 200m B String, clocking 27.06 over the sprint distance. Doug Roberts found his winning ways again in the Under 17 Men’s 800m race, with a brilliant time of 2.06.8 and Paul Kilsby took only 12.00 to cover 100m for an excellent Grade 4 time, while both athletes claimed wins in the Javelin, with Paul throwing a fantastic 37.97m.

In the same age group for the Ladies, Sprinters Leanne Shaw, Brogan Fraser and Ruth Hill wrapped up the 100m and 200m events between them, with Leanne taking 2 victories, Brogan running 13.49 over the shorter distance and Ruth competing strongly with 27.20 over 200m. Jane Thornton performed well over 800m with a win and a great clocking of 3.03.18, while the team won the 4x100m relay. In the Under 13 age group, Amy Coulson claimed another win over her strongest distance of 800m in 2.35.82, earning her a Grade 2, while team mates Kerry Robson and Sophie Talbot took on the sprint distances of 75m and 150m, recording some pleasing results, as well as covering the Long Jump and Shot Putt.

British Miler's Club meeting - Middlesborough 16th July

Senior athlete Chris Peacock has also been in excellent form on the track, competing in the British Miler’s Club 800m event at the Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough on Monday 16th July. Finishing 2nd in his heat, Chris crossed the line in a fabulous time of 2.13.4, which is a season’s best and has equalled his best performance of last season as a MV40 and with the right conditions, he is hoping to improve on this time throughout the Summer.
