British Masters Championships Birmingham 28th & 29th July 2007

The seemingly unstoppable master thrower, John Wild, as in action once again, this time at the British Masters Championships at Birmingham on 28th & 29th July, where he collected a total of 3 medals; Bronze, Silver and Gold! The win came in the Discus with an awesome distance of 38.56m, earning him the Gold medal and with a throw of 13.01m in the Heavy Weight, John promptly claimed the Silver medal. Shortly afterwards a result of 37.27m in the Hammer earned him the Bronze medal for his superb efforts and he only narrowly missed bagging a further medal in the Shot Putt, finishing 4th overall with a throw of 10.34m. John also competed in the Javelin, finishing in 7th position overall on the day with 34.43m, still an outstanding performance in his age group.

These Championships also meant that he was competing against athletes, who specialise in one throwing event only, as was the case with the winners of the Hammer, Javelin and Shot Putt on this occasion, so to be amongst the medals at all is a real achievement. Whilst the distances did not quite reach the heady heights, which he achieved at the Weights Pentathlon in Milton Keynes in early July, John is certainly pleased with his medal haul from National Championships this year, collecting 5 Gold, 1 Silver and a Bronze on his travels. His season will finish on 29th September with Stoke Throws Fest, however, he still has a couple of local competitions and the Yorkshire Masters Championships yet to come, where he will once again be in the hunt for medals.
