Inter County Championships Hull - 26th August 2007

Rurth Hill

Sprinter Ruth Hill was flying high once more on the track towards the end of the season, representing Yorkshire in the Inter County Championships, held at the Costello Stadium, Hull on Sunday 26th August. She was up against stiff opposition, competing in the 300m event as well as the Medley Relay. She finished in an excellent 2nd place, claiming the silver medal in the individual race, clocking a new PB into the bargain, taking only 43.0 seconds dead to cover the sprint distance; the winner from Cumbria, having recently taken the bronze medal at the English Schools Championships. She then went on to collect a bronze medal in the relay, as the Yorkshire team took 3rd place across the line. The club would like to wish Ruth all the best for the future, as she now moves on to the City Of York AC, to concentrate on her sprint training.

Northern Senior Track & field League - Jarrow 5th August

Results are finally in from the 4th and final fixture in the Northern Senior Track and Field League at Jarrow, which took place on Sunday 5th August, marking the end of the league events. Another relatively poor attendance by Richmond and Zetland athletes once again meant that the club did not realise its potential and subsequently, relegation to division 4E, was confirmed by the end of the meeting. On a more positive note, those competing certainly did so with grit and determination. The ladies took the 2 top places in the 3000m A and B String, with Kelley Haniver and Sarah Gregory completing the 7.5 laps of the track successfully. The same athletes also went on to solid results in the Hammer Throw, while Kelley also took 3rd over 800m and 400m on a busy afternoon. Emma Bates was a welcome addition to the squad, claiming 2nd place in the 1500m and 3rd in the Long Jump. Jenny Fenwick also entered a multitude of events, covering the Long Jump, sprints and 800m, while team manager, Fiona Hughes got to grips with all the throws.

The men saw Jon Orange take victory in the 1500m, clocking a superb time of 4.06.2, as well as another win over 5000m, crossing the line in 16.03.6, while Dan Spencer proved a valuable team member, competing in both the 800m and 5000m. John Wild had yet another busy day of competition, claiming victory in the Hammer, in addition to 2nd in the Discus and Javelin and Chris Peacock, was pleased with two strong performances over 800m and 1500m.
