Brass Monkey Half Marathon - York - 20th January 2008

On Sunday 20th January over the same weekend, Sarah Gregory managed to get a place on the start line at the ever-popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon, starting and finishing at York’s Knavesmire Racecourse. The event boasts a flat, fast course out through the local villages, with the potential for fast times from competitors, who make the journey from all over the country to take part. On this occasion she managed a time of 1.36.53 after a strong head wind for the first 4-5 miles, which put her in 299th place overall from in excess of 1000 runners and although not too disappointed with her time, she is focusing on the longer term goal of the London Marathon, having already undertaken several long runs of over 20 miles, which perhaps meant a fast clocking was not to be this time. The overall winner was local athlete Steve Hepples with a top class time of 1.08.13.
