Northern Senior League - Middlesbrough - 7th June 2008

Saturday 7th June saw Middlesbrough host the second meeting of the Northern Senior League. There were 15 athletes taking part on this occasion, which really swelled the ranks, resulting in a great victory for Richmond and Zetland. Tim Burn, Matt Prosser and Paul Kilsby were all winners over the sprint distances from 100m to 400m, with the latter two athletes also winning the Long Jump, while Jon Orange once again dominated the Mens 5000m with an excellent time of 15.47.2. Andrew Clarke produced a fine run in the 800m, clocking 2.02.3 along with Ken Harker winning the B string and John Wild proved to be the stalwart of throwing we have come to rely on in all four throwing events. Chris Peacock had a strong outing over 1500m and the men rounded off the day brilliantly with victory in both relays. The ladies meanwhile we also on top form, with Jane Thornton and Jenny Fenwick faring well over 100m and 200m, while Kelly Haniver claimed valuable points with 2nd place in the 800m, accompanied by Rosie Adams winning the B string. Jo Adams had an excellent day winning the 1500m by some margin and lowering her PB by over 5 seconds to 4.55.9. Katie Roberts once again topped the Discus rankings with 22.64m and Fiona Hughes finished 2nd over 3000m, as well as numerous other events. The ladies relay teams then went on win the 4 x 400m and place 3rd over 4 x 100m, putting the team comfortably in pole position with 432 points.

North Schools Track & Field Championships York - 14th June 2008

Richmond and Zetland had 16 junior athletes taking part in the North Yorkshire Schools Track & Field Championships at York on Saturday 14th June, all putting in excellent performances. Fergus Roberts continued his top form and promptly won the Junior Boys 1500m event in a flying time of 4.25.0, followed by Marc Scott in 4.31.0, while Karl Murray took 5th over 100m in 13.00. There were also some fantastic results for the Intermediate Boys, with Sam Wood placing 2nd over 1500m in 4.24.4, George Robinson taking 3rd over 3000m and Liam Fletcher 6th over 400m. In the same age group, Aaron Mornington gained 3rd position in the Javelin with another exceptional throw of 38.37m. In the Senior Boys events, Paul Kilsby cruised to victory in the 100m with 11.8, while Tim Burn echoed this over 200m in a time of 23.1.

The girls were not to be outdone, with Jo Adams taking a fantastic win over 800m for the Senior Girls in 2.19.9, which equals her PB, with more sure to come over the season. Rosie Adams also claimed a terrific 2nd place over 1500m, while team mate Katie Roberts took full honours in the Discus with a throw of 26.34m and Jane Thornton clocked up 4th and 2nd places respectively over 100m and 200m. For the Junior Girls Maddy Winzer easily won the 1500m with 5.03.2 and Rosie Stirr took 8th position, with a strong run in 5.45.9. Amy Coulson meanwhile concentrated on her best distance of 800m, claiming 5th place with a time of 2.43.4.

Northern Senior & Under 20 Championships - Manchester 14th-15th June 2008

Over the same weekend Doug Roberts was working hard at the Northern Senior & Under 20 Championships at Sportcity in Manchester. He competed in a straight final over 1500m, doing exceptionally well to finish in 10th place amid very strong opposition with a time of 4.06.4, earning him a PB by over 6 seconds. The race was a close affair, with the winning time being 3.58 and very close groupings on the line.
