Young Athletes League - Middlesbrough - 22nd June 2008
The 3rd Young Athletes League meeting took place at Middlesbrough on 22nd June, where George Robinson took an impressive victory in the Triple Jump and 1500m in the Under 17 Men’s category, with a great time of 4.35.2, accompanied by team mate Sam Wood, opting for the shorter than usual distance. Tom Allen performed very well over 400m and 800m in the same age group, claiming the runner’s up spot in both. Tom Bingley and Tom Moore also ran well in the sprints over 100m and 200m for the Under 15 Boys, taking 1st and 2nd places respectively, as well as topping the High Jump rankings with 1.35m, while Karl Murray also claimed victory over 100m. James King and Callum Findley were in great shape, producing excellent times for 800m with 2.28.1 and 2.28.5, while Fergus Roberts and Marc Scott resumed normal business over 1500m, taking both A and B string wins in 4.50.1 and 4.56.4 respectively. In the field events, Alex Wright threw a fine distance of 4.09m in the Shott Putt.
For the Under 13 Boys, Paul Harmsworth took 3 brilliant victories over 100m, Long Jump and Shot Putt, with Ewan Findley also scoring valuable points in virtually the same events, with 200m under his belt in 33.4. Nathan O’Connor also topped up the total with a win over 75m Hurdles and 2nd place over 200m flat. The Under 13 Girls also had a busy time with Georgia McCann taking care of the sprints, along with Sophie Talbot, competing well in the Long Jump. Amy Coulson ran well over 800m to take 3rd in a time of 2.54.6, as well as 18.7 in the 75m hurdles, while Rosie Stirr ran well over 1500m to finish 2nd in 5.49.1 and claimed 4th over the hurdles. Rhiannon Allan-Ross had a great outing, winning the 100m and Shot Putt and Emma King enjoyed her usual events, finishing 3rd in the 75m and 4th over 800m in 2.57.1.
Harrogate League - Richmond - 1st July 2008

The fifth and final Harrogate Road Race League event was held at Hudswell, Richmond on 1st July and hosted by Swaldedale Road Runners. The course was out and back, covering 4.9 miles, with a long climb uphill for the first 2 miles. Fifteen Harriers were practically on home soil and managed to win the ladies race on the night, as well as sealing overall victory in the Vet’s competition. Jon Orange also ensured his excellent individual league victory by crossing the line in 2nd place with 26.47. Doug Roberts wasn’t far behind in 4th place, displaying great form with 27.27 and was first Under 18 athlete. Tad Zaranko had his best result with 9th in 29.42, while Shaun Purkiss claimed 15th place and was next home with 30.33. Rachel Ross-Russell also took an outright league win with another victory in the ladies race, finishing in 17th place with 30.37. Tony Ryder was next in sight in 30.46, which earned him 19th position, followed by Ian Scott in 20th place with 30.55, while Taff Rogers crossed the line as the 39th competitor in 32.25. Tamsin Clark and Kelley Haniver continued the run of ladies in 42nd and 45th positions with 32.39 and 32.47, then Chris Peacock emerged to take 54th overall in 33.24. Tony Ditchburn was next home, taking 62nd place in 33.40, followed by Adam Scott with 34.26 in 70th place. Jessie Roberts ran well to take 74th with 34.35 and Sarah Gregory claimed 123rd with 37.04 to take the ladies team into top place.
