Jon Orange Tops V45 Ranking in 1500M

Jon Orange

Richmond and Zetland athlete Jon Orange has recently concentrated his efforts on the track, aiming to get as close to his personal best of 4.00.07 as possible for 1500m and top the national Vet 45 age group rankings. He has been in excellent form throughout the season and recently turned his attention to some high profile races at Stretford, near Manchester, competing in the British Miler’s Club events, against some of the sharpest athletes in the country.

On 12th August, Jon had his first BMC outing at the Gold Standards Race and ran in atrocious conditions, with the track awash with rain water, but still achieved a fabulous time of 4.09.4, which was a season’s best and showed that he could go faster when the right circumstances prevailed. This placed him in 3rd position nationally in the Vet 45 age group. His next chance came on 26th August, where he made the journey back to Stretford with team mate Doug Roberts, running in the Trafford Grand Prix over 1500m once again. This time the weather was a little kinder and saw Jon finish in 4th position in the race, with an even better time of 4.05.36, which saw him move up the national rankings to take 1st position in his age group; a fabulous achievement for any athlete. Doug also finished in an excellent time of 4.06.89, which ranks him 148th in the country over 1500m in his Under 20 age group.

Congratulations to Jon on his achievement and we wait to see if he can better this further in the closing weeks of the track and field season, given more competition of the same calibre.
