Snape 10K & 5K - 20th September 2008

Richmond and Zetland had 22 Harriers in action at Snape 10K and 5K on Saturday 20th September. Both events are mainly run off-road on local trails and this year the courses had to be changed, due to the recent flooding, making the 10K event slightly shorter and the 5K longer.

Ian Scott

The 10K got underway first, with Rich Hunt and Doug Roberts quickly taking the lead. Both kept pace with each other until Rich pulled clear with 2K to go and held the 10 second advantage to the finish line, winning in a fantastic time of 33.18. Ian Scott claimed the top prize in his MV40 age group, as well as 3rd place overall in another excellent time of 36.22. Ken Harker is getting back into his stride after injury, crossing the line in 36.51 and taking 5th place in the process, while Phil Fitzpatrick was next home in 12th position, with a great time of 40.23. Under 17 athlete Tom Allen put in a superb performance, picking up the trophy for his age group in the process with a time of 40.57. Tony Ditchburn was once again using the race as training for the Great North Run and had a good outing to finish in 41.11, taking 15th place. Sarah Gregory was back to finding some form, finishing in 44.19 and 24th position overall, as well as being 2nd lady and collecting the trophy for the 19-39 age group. Caroline Allen meanwhile completed her first ever 10K race in Richmond and Zetland colours, claiming 56th place from over 100 competitors with a solid time of 51.14.

The 5K was just as competitive, with many juniors keen to do well. Fergus Roberts was the first Richmond athlete across the line and the overall winner, with a formidable time of 20.09, while Tad Zarenko was just over a minute behind in 2nd place with 21.22, taking the MV40 prize. Marc Scott wasn’t far behind, claiming 3rd place with a great time of 21.45. The trophy for the first overall female went to Maddy Winzer in a very competitive time of 22.35 and 5th place overall, while Liam Fletcher and Adam Scott finished closely in 6th and 7th with only 2 seconds separating their times of 23.36 and 23.38. Glen Ient was next home, having a strong run and taking 9th place in 24.05, while team-mate Tom Targett finished in 12th stopping the clock at 25.57. Abby Fletcher was 2nd female home in 26.44, improving on last year’s time and Rosie Stirr looked strong to finish in 26th with 30.19, while Sally Marjoram greatly improved her time, coming home in 31.10, earning her 28th position. Rachel Stirr was also in great shape, picking up the prize for the first girl under 13 in 33.52.
