NYSD Cross Country - Eston - 16th November 2008

The third NYSD Cross Country fixture took place at Flatts Lane, Eston on Sunday 16th November on a very challenging and hilly course, where Richmond and Zetland had no less than five victories in the team and individual results. The Under 13 boys once again ran very strongly, as Paul Harmsworth took a well-deserved win, Max Robson 2nd overall and Lewis Bramley an excellent 4th, making it a comfortable first place for the team. The Under 13 girl’s team claimed 3rd place, thanks to Abbie Fletcher being first Harrier home in 7th position, followed by Emma King in 9th place and Freja Nicholson, who finished 13th overall.

Amy Coulson and Rosie Stirr were once again the sole representatives in the Under 15 girl’s race, however, both ran strongly, with Amy finishing convincingly in 8th and Rosie close behind in 9th position. The Under 15 boy’s team looked ever stronger, with Fergus Roberts continuing to run extremely well to take an overall victory, followed closely by Marc Scott in 2nd place and James King, who finished in 5th to easily claim the team win. Also stepping up to the mark were the Under 17 Men, who recorded another win, thanks to compelling runs from all three athletes. George Robinson looked in great shape, finishing well ahead of the field in first place, while Sam Wood ran with a slight knee injury, to take 2nd position overall and Liam Fletcher looked sharp, being 4th across the line.

Jo Adams & Leanne Jones

The ladies team line-up had six athletes and finished 2nd overall; another good performance and result. Kelley Haniver was well up with the pace, taking 3rd place and Jo Adams produced another strong performance, finishing 8th overall. Leanne Jones was close behind in 9th, having another fantastic run, while Fiona Hughes was next home, running extremely well in 14th position. Sarah Gregory then finished in 17th place, while Rosie Adams competed well, crossing the line in 20th place to complete the team.

The men’s team were rather thin on the ground on this occasion with only the minimum six athletes competing and finished in 6th place on the day. This was compounded when Jon Orange was forced to retire en-route feeling unwell. Ken Harker was first home for the Harriers with a brilliant 7th place, while Tad Zaranko ran strongly to claim 19th. Shaun Purkiss was also well up the field in 23rd and Taff Rogers claimed 33rd with some excellent running. Ray Robson was next across the line, moving up the ranks to finish a hard-earned 72nd overall, while Chris Fletcher really got to grips with this event, competing well on the tough course to take 75th place, with some solid, consistent running.
