Gary Bastow continued his BOFRA season last Sunday with The Hawkswick Dash. This short Fell Race is a mere 1.2 miles but has a stiff 700 foot climb to the ridge, then along, before a mad-cap descent back to the village near Kettlewell. Gary finished 8th in the race in 13:08, less than two minutes behind the winner; he was 1st Veteran on the day and is now 3rd Vet overall, behind the absent Billy Procter who is leading the series. This was his third cosecutive race following-on from Grassington (11th in the race & 5th Vet) and Cracoe (7th & 2nd) the previous weeks.
On the roads, in the CDBramhall-sponsored Darlington Races, Philip Fitzpatrick was again "in the medals", finishing a creditable 3rd in the Junior 3.5K against lads two and three years older. Sadie Potter also ran and was pleased with her place in the top twenty. The Senior 10K attracted 795 contestants. Martin Scaife of Chester-le-Street retained his title, overhauling Clubmate Stewy Bell in the last kilometre, to finish in 30:21. Jon Orange was first Harrier home in 5th place; Louise Jackson was 5th Lady and both won prizes from Simpson Sports.
