Fun Run 22nd March 2002 On Sunday 17th March 51 youngsters and parents took part in a Sponsored Fun Run over a circular course of about 2 miles, starting at the Richmond swimming pool via Easby Abbey. The run was organised by Richmond Rotary Club and Richmond and Zetland Harriers with prizes donated by Gilsan Sports of Richmond. The weather had improved considerably from the previous day but the course was still heavy going in places. The runners got away just after 11am and the first runner home was Philip Fitzpatrick a member of Richmond and Zetland Harriers in a time of 13mins59, shortly followed by Simon Irvine-Fortescue. The first girl home and third place, was Scarlett Gray also a member of Richmond and Zetland Harriers in a time of 15mins 57. Philip took the trophy for Boys age 12-14 and Scarlett the trophy for girls age 12-14. The other trophy winners were Rosie Adams , girls 9-11, Adam Scott, boys age 9-11, Rebecca Shaw, girls age 7-8 and Ethan Stamp, boys age 7-8. All runners collected vouchers donated by McDonalds at Catterick. Mr Fred Petch, President of Richmond Rotary Club presented the trophies to the winners shortly after all the runners had completed the course. The proceeds of the run, estimated at more than £500 when the sponsorship is collected, will be given to the Butterwick Hospice and to help with the youth section of Richmond and Zetland Harriers. |
