Please Read This!

Over the past year or more, this PR transcription index has become impossible to maintain in its original form. When begun, the number of transcriptions available was much smaller, and the pace of progress much slower. These pages were never designed to cope with the current rate of change.
In order to keep the index as a useful resource, I am beginning to move it to a database system from which the pages will be generated automatically. The end result should not differ too much in appearance from what you are used to. However, there will be some changes:

• I need to use a standardised list of Somerset parishes. None is completely satisfactory, but I have chosen the Somerset Heritage Centre list to work from. Some churches will appear as chapelries if they are not in that list.
• There will be some rearrangement and rationalisation of parishes grouped into urban areas, including a few Bristol records.
• Inevitably, mistakes will creep in, and error checking a list of this size is challenging! Please let me know about errors you find. If things go too pear-shaped I can always revert to the old files, which will not however be updated from now on. I can only hope to do better than typical software projects
• Hopefully the index will be more complete and up to date.

The new system is live as of now, with the second of a series of interim updates. Only minor changes and corrections this time, but despite what it says above, Watchet is no longer a parish for the purposes of this index! Constructive comments and suggestions will be welcomed.
