The VT de luxe M is visually similar to the VT de luxe. It differs in having metal shutter curtains and a silver coated (as opposed to gold toned on the VT de luxe) viewfinder. A hinged back is fitted to allow film loading and a lever is provided in the baseplate to facilitate rapid film advance (also found on the VIT, VT and VT deluxe). Model VT de luxe (with no M) is engraved on the front of the baseplate.

Earlier Canon rangefinders (starting with the IIB) have a lever next to the rewind knob which operates the optical finder. This changed with the introduction of the VT, which has a finder window on the top plate in line with the viewfinder. A wheel to the side of the viewfinder sets the finder and moves an arrow in the finder window to one of three positions. These are marked 50, 35 and RF.

A
built-in self-timer is fitted. Flash synchronisation is provided for FP, M or X.

This model was available in both chrome and black.

The top of the camera has the following inscription:

A serial number appears to the right of this, in front of the flash shoe, and the rear of the camera is engraved "CANON CAMERA COMPANY INC JAPAN"
