The FED 2 Pre-series is similar to the FED - 2 Type 1 which followed it. It does, however, have a rectangular rangefinder window (round on the Type 1), and this is sometimes found in a plate with an arched top, as in the pictured camera. It does not have flash synchronization The back and baseplate, which are joined, are removable to allow film loading. There are two locking keys, at either end of the baseplate. The lever alongside the film rewind knob is for diopter adjustment.

This is the first Russian Leica copy of Soviet design.
