The Interplan-A is similar to the Periflex Gold Star. It was offered without a lens, as it was intended for use as a second body using Leica screw mount lenses.

The periscope viewfinder found on earlier Periflex models, such as the Periflex 1, was not used on this camera. Viewfinder lenses are interchangeable.

Two further versions of this camera were manufactured, although they were not designed with a Leica screw mount. These were the Interplan-B (M42 screw thread for Pentax and Edixa lenses) and the Interplan-C (for Exacta bayonet lenses).
