The Tanack IIIS is visually similar to the later IV-s, but without the black beading around the top and bottom of the body and the engraved film plane indicator on the top plate..

The flash synchronization sockets on the front are for M and X, at 1/25.

The Tanack IIISa is a variant, with probably only small numbers being built (it is suggested there is only one known example). It only has one flash socket on the front (for M).

An advertisement in the December 1954 issue of Ars Camera lists the IIIS with two lens options. With a 2.8 at 31700 yen and a 3.5 at 29100 yen.
