As this camera does not have a Leica mount lens, it is included in 'look-alikes' rather than under Leica copies.

Modelled on the Hansa Canon, the Canon S retains the spring-loaded, pop up, viewfinder. The frame counter has, however, been moved to the camera top at the base of the film advance knob (it is on the front of the Hansa). The top cover of the Canon S is made up of two parts (the Hansa Canon has a one-piece cover).

The Canon S has a slow speed dial on the front, operated by a lever to help avoid contact with the focusing mount.

The engraving on the film advance and rewind knobs consists of a diamond pattern.
