Current Concerns

Linton Wind Farm

Planning permission sought for 8 turbines along the ridge.  These would be visible from Ickleton.  The Society is concerned about the impacts on the landscape and from low frequency noise and has made objections as part of the planning process.  Currently subject of a Public Inquiry.

Hanley Grange, Hinxton

Having withdrawn the plan for a new town under the Government’s Eco-town initiatives, Tesco has now proposed a development of 14,100 houses under the Review of the East of England Plan.  The Society remains very active as part of the Stop Hanley Grange Campaign, continues to oppose this development and is responding to consultations under the RSS process.

Stansted Airport

Building of a second runway.  The planning application is going to a Public Inquiry which is not expected to start until after the general election.  The Society is concerned about the impacts of airport expansion on the area and has made objections under the planning process.

Expansion of Duxford

Huntsman are considering development of part of their site for housing (300-400 houses) and, separately, Bidwells (acting for Gonville and Keys College and the Duke of Westminster Estates) are developing a proposal for 800-900 houses to the north and west of the village and a relief road.  The Society is concerned about increased traffic through Ickleton.

Dumping of spoil near Stump Cross

Spoil is being dumped on the field to the south of Grassy Lane without planning permission.  Part of this area is flood plain and could increase the risk of flooding to parts of Ickleton.  The Society supports the Parish Council’s concerns about this dumping which it has raised with the relevant authorities.

Changes to flight paths

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) is planning to review flight paths and stacking arrangements for our area.  The review has been postponed.  The Society will maintain a watch on this as overflying affects Ickleton.
