Conan and the Sorceress: stage by stage

stage 1
1. Original scanned pencil and paper sketch (very rough)
stage 2
2. Basic colours, fixing Conan's pose and his basic musculature established (a little time-consuming)
stage 3
3. Some more work on the Conan figure, hair and apparel
stage 4
4. Conan is more or less completed, then work on the Atlantean sword begins
       
stage 5
5. The sword is finished, first rendering pass on the stairs and basic musculature/shadow/lighting of the "bitch" figure
stage 6
6. Second pass on the stairs, more work on the "bitch"
stage 7
7. The "bitch" seemingly complete (question mark on arm anatomy), demons receive their first coat
stage 8
8. Muscles of the demons rendered
       
stage 9
9. Demons near completion, and attention turns to the Sorceress herself, her skin tones painted
stage 10
10. The Sorceress' highlights, shadows and hair rendered

stage 11
11. The Sorceress gets her intricate kit on while her cloak takes shape

12. The cloak is now fully rendered and detailed
       
stage 13
13. The background "cave" coalesces to something resembling solid rock
stage 14
14. The background is more or less in chiselled relief and work starts on the the pyrotechnics
final stage
15. The electric storm becomes a reality and final adjustments are made, including the fixing of that arm.  Painting finished!
