Originally for a proposed metal music festival, the fantasy concept was of a 'friendly' Norse invasion of Scotland, so no historical accuracy required, or intended. The 'knotwork', while original, was intended to have a slight Celtic look about it, in places. The tartan, however, was based on the Ancient Hunting tartan of the real Clan Rose ("Constant and True" goes their motto), an ancient Clan of Norman descent whose Chiefs have lived at the great castle of Kilvarock, near Inverness, since the 15th Century.
