I ran a challenge for members of my Yahoo group to learn Hardanger.

I created this pattern with detailed instructions aimed at beginners and asked people to comment on how easy to follow they were, what they liked or disliked about them and what would help to make them better.

The idea was to give people confidence to try a new style of stitching and nearly 70 people took up the challenge. Some were complete beginners, some had tried a little and some had quite a bit of experience. Everyone was encouraged to make the design their own by chosing their own colours and fabric and adding little touches if they wished.
Just for fun, I organised a competition for everyone to vote for their favourites, the results are shown here. Hopefully more examples will be added as they are finished.

The Hardanger Challenge is now available to buy as a pattern, with instructions improved by the feedback that I received.
