North West CAMRA organisers presenting a certificate to Bill Hinchcliffe of the GYCA

Annual Grappenhall Beer Festival
Fri 20th/Sat 21st May 2005

The Grappenhall Beer Festival has become an annual April/May Spring Event.

The Bellhouse bar usually boasts at least two guest real ales and has been justly commended by CAMRA on a number of occasions for the GYCA's fine innkeeping.

The Grappenhall Beer Festival (usually held spring each year), is a celebration of over 20 real ales from around
Britain. Live entertainment by Purple Toe'd on Friday and Monsoon on Saturday is provided this year. Admission is 4 pounds on Friday and 3 pounds on Saturday, reflecting the chances that some beers might no longer be available by the Saturday Night. Fine wines, spirits and soft drinks are also available for anyone looking for an alternative tipple!

The Festival covers a Friday and Saturday Evening.

Tickets are available from the GYCA bar or on 01925-268633, and a souvenir glass is included on entry. Book early to avoid disappointment!

A dark chestnut coloured ale. Crammed full of roast malt flavours, it is complimented with superb dry hop aromas derived from the choicest East Kent Goldings. Do not be left at the starting point with this beer.

HOOK NOTTON – FIRST LIGHT 4.3%

A very pale, light brew with a complex hop aroma. The continental – type palate is from the high proportion of Malted Wheat, which is used in addition to Malted Barley. Styrian Goldings hops are added, which give a fruity nose, with hints of watermelon and lychees.

NETHERGATE – SUFFOLK COUNTY 4.00%

A fine balanced beer with plenty of hops and malt that gives the Classic Nethergate taste.

OKELL’S of the Isle of Man – DOCTOR OKELL’S I.P.A. 4.5%

An extremely light coloured beer with a surprising full-bodied taste. The sweetness is offset by a very strong hopping rate, which gives the finished beer an overall roundness, with very spicy lemony notes and a fine, dry finish to counteract the initial sweetness.

RUDGATE – MAYPOLE 4.5%

Initial sweetness leads into a full bitterness with definite tastes of amber malt onto a full all-round finish.

CAINS – 2008 CELEBRATION ALE 5.0%
