The Individual Tournaments: These comprise the Club Championship, the Major and the Minor Tournaments (entries permitting). They are run as all-play-all events throughout the season. The winners of the Major and Minor have automatic right of promotion to the tournament above in the following season.
We
have been fighting to re-generate tournament entries of a sufficient
level to run the Minor competition again, but the brutal fact is
that we have this season lost the Major section, now having entries
sufficient only for one section, the Championship.
Speed chess: The season begins with the Lightning Championship for the Nurse Cup on the opening night of the season. This is "buzzer" chess at 10 seconds a move. The closing night of the season is reserved for the Rapidplay Championship for the Laurie Ratcliff Cup. This is usually 10 minutes on each clock per game.
