Score basis: Game Points    Tie-Break: Match Points

As late as the Monday before the event date, we believed we had an entry of 11 teams (venue maximum: 12). However, the usual rate of last minute withdrawals kicked in on Tuesday and we came down to an attendance of eight teams plus a number of reserves.

Come the event, a delayed start was incurred through an abortive attempt to form a "Reserves" team. However, there were several players still absent, obliging the existing teams to recall their reserves which rendered the forming of a ninth team impossible. As a result of the late start, clock times were reduced to 8 minutes per game as against the standard 10.

The holders, Athenaeum, led from start to finish to retain the Frost-Wilmot with a score of 23/28, a point ahead of RBS/Americans “A”, 22, who were just unable to recover from early dropped points.

Thanks were expressed to Goldman Sachs for hosting the event and Andrew Medworth for facilitating these arrangements and to Tony Paish and Martin Page for organisation of the event and to Ian Hunnable for Controlling.

In the final round, with Athenaeum's lead narrowed to two points, RBS "A" recorded their third straight 4-0 victory, this time accounting for Barclays. But it was not enough. Athenaeum defeated Goldman Sachs 3-1 to hang on. In truth, Athenaeum's tie-break advantage meant they would have needed to lose 1½-2½ or worse against the bottom placed team, hosts GS, in order to relinquish first spot. It didn't happen and Athenaeum won by a point.
