PATH FROM HOME
|

|
Navigation The
site is designed as a Home Page linked to any number of "index"
pages, each heading an area of the site, eg Matches, Tournaments,
Rules etc. From each of these index pages, sub or "child"
pages are accessible, and from the child pages, other pages on
the same level, "sibling" pages, are available. Navigation bars Finding your way around the site is by way of the navigation bars. These are either vertical (as those on the left), or horizontal across the page. The navigation bars in the panel down the left of each page are in two parts. The upper part is always the 'path from home', ie the relationship of the page you are on to the Home page, including the principal area of the site that you are currently visiting. The lower part, below the horizontal line, shows the sibling pages, that is, other pages accessible on the same level; these pages offered here are all in the 'Site Office' area. In the instance of this page, the path from Home is given as Home > Site Office > Re-design. This says that the area of the site you are currently visiting is the Site Office, which is directly accessible from the Home Page. The word "Re-design" is in black as it is not an active link, being the current page. Thus, wherever you are in the site, you are always only one click away from either the Home Page or the index page of the area you are currently visiting, and one click away from related pages in the same area. Try clicking on some of the other links in the lower navigation bar to the left; in each of these pages, you will see the same group of pages on offer, with only the page given in black (the page you are currently on) changing. (Select 'Re-design' to get back to this page.) The other pages in the lower navigation bar are all accessible from within the Site Office area, but from nowhere else, ie you would always have to access the Site Office main page to visit these sub-pages. In other pages, navigation bars might be shown horizontally across the page, in addition to those down the left. Horizontal navigation bars are of two types: either bold type or in normal type. Occasionally, a horizontal navigation bar may mix bold and normal type but these, where they occur, are clearly divided, try Matches (use your 'back' icon to return to this page). Those in bold type refer to other pages accessible from the page currently being viewed. These are generally to be found in the principal index pages and lead to sub pages within that area. Horizontal navigation bars in normal type relate only to the current page, assisting navigation within a long page. Such navigation bars are repeated throught the page at the end of each section, eg visit Friendly matches (use your 'back' icon to return to this page). In some pages, contextual links are given further down a page, linking to related pages in the context of the article you are reading, eg accessing Durham shows you a link giving access to the Durham match details. This
prinicple of navigation is common throught the site. Page dates and update information In a departure from the design of the previous site, dates of last change no longer appears with the links on the Home page. Instead, a brief update panel on the Home Page gives the most recent changes, each change being referenced against the area index page, enabling the visitor to access that from the navigation bar. The full update log is still maintained (go to 'Updates', left) and now retains all updates from 8th March 2003 (previously only the last 10 updates were retained), so visitors will still be able to see if they've missed anything, even if they have not visited for a while. Those
pages subject to frequent change, eg pages reporting Club activities,
will bear a page date in the heading (see to the right of the maroon
coloured bar above).
Style Main text is in 10pt Arial, headings in 12 pt Arial bold. Tables and navigation bars are 9pt Tahoma. These are both "non-serif" fonts, that is without decoration on the ends of uprights. (Compare with a 'Roman' or serif font.) However, you will only be seeing this site as designed if your computer has fonts called "Arial" and "Tahoma". If you are accessign this site via a Windows PC, the chances are it has and that you are seeing the site in these styles. If you are not, then your browser will display these pages in the default font to which it is set. In order to see the site as approximately as designed by the Webmaster, you will need to set your default font to a non-serif font. Lastly, every long page has at the foot a 'tail bar' like the one below. Clicking anywhere on this bar will take you back to the top of the page. |
