New

This flash (don't laugh, it's our first animation) appears against any page or feature for two weeks after its first publication, or while a page is still under construction. After that time period, or as soon as the page has reached a completed state if later, the flash will be replaced by a date (see next item).

Updates

The date against each item on the main index (Home Page) indicates the date of last change. Simple corrections are not usually flagged with a new date. The "Site updated" date on the Index page should reflect the latest date against any of the items in the index.

The Webmaster keeps a long of changes made to the site. This information is recorded in the Update Log and may stop you tearing your hair out trying to decide what has changed on any indicated page. In the Log, a link to the relevant area will be provided on the latest update of that item.

Some of the indexed pages may have sub-pages accessible only through the main page (eg Inter-Office Competitions has sub-pages with cross tables and match details). The date of last update shown against the main page in the Index may relate only to a change in a sub-page - see the Update Log for clarification.

Games

Complete games will usually appear on the dedicated Games page, rather than in the source article ie whether the game was played in a Club match or tournament or Inter-Office Competitions etc, it will appear in the Games page with a two-way link between the game and its source event. Passages from play (commencing at a diagram) will usually be given in the source page.

All complete games published on the Games page are available in download form, in a .pgn file. This can be loaded into programs such as Fritz and Genius. The games in this file were not originally provided with annotations, but notes will be included in time (being an edited version of the annotations appearing on the game page).

News

The News page features:

  • Club news that does not fall specifically in any separate sphere of activity;
  • news of new features/areas on the site;
  • news of forthcoming events not previously published in the Fixture List (ie the paper version circulated at the start of the season);
  • developments concerning forthcoming events whether previously publicised or new (actual or prospective)

Archive

There are two classes of content in the archive section. The first is the retained record of previous seasons' activities, and the second is feature-style content of a historical or background/explanatory nature. Examples of the second class are: the List of Officers since the Club's foundation, List of Tournament winners, York England-Scotland matches, the Wagstaff Memorial Matches, etc.

You will find some detail in more than one place, eg events recorded in the past seasons' activities, will also appear in the appropriate background/explanatory feature if one exists for that sphere of our activities.
