Coins which commemorate the Victoria Cross
Canada issued 3 grades of Canadian Dollar coins during 2006 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross
The first is an un-circulated solid silver dollar coin which was retailed at $30.95
The next stage up is the one illustrated below - it is again solid silver but this one is classed as being in proof finish - it retailed at $37.95
Below is the 2006 proof set which contains a proof dollar coin which is made from silver and has the VC plated in gold. This set retailed at $86.95
In the UK the 50p coin was designed to commemorate the VC - there are two designs - the first has a VC on with both the sides illustrated.
The second coin has one service man rescuing another with the shape of the VC in the background - this is know as the "Heroic Act" coin
I have obtained quite a large supply of both types of these 50p coins and I am currently selling them on eBay ;-) - if you want one do look at the eBay site and enter Victoria Cross Coin in the search box.
There are also gold proof sets but these are a fortune!
