The Memorials of The Suffolk Regiment The Later Wars The larger memorial is made from white stone and bronze. It commemorates those from Ipswich who died in WW1, WW2 and subsequent conflicts.
The monument takes the form of a large circular base with an obelisk in the centre.
There is a bronze cross at the base formed from items of war such as guns, capes, haversacks and helmets.
The Great War and World War II are picked out in lettering below the bronze, along with their dates.
On the back of the obelisk is the recognition of what the people of Ipswich did with their contributions in memory of these heroes. Behind the obelisk is a "wall" of remembrance which contains the names of all those people from Ipswich who lost their lives in World War One and subsequent battles.
The names are embossed on bronze plaques.
There is a large section naming soldiers from the Suffolk Regiment who were killed. |
