joint enfeoffment The joint settlement of property on a husband and wife.

jointure A fixed yearly amount payable in place of a dower to a widow from her husband's freehold, either for life or until she remarried.

joint will A will made by two or more persons, signed by each, to dispose of joint property or property owned separately for a common purpose.

journeyman A craftsman who has satisfactorily completed his apprenticeship and is entitled to work at his trade for a full day's wage.

Julian Calendar The calendar as revised and modified by Julius Caesar in 45 B.C. It was in use in Western Europe until 1752. Called the "Old Style" calendar it was replaced by the Gregorian calendar.

Justice of the Peace A magistrate appointed by the Lord Chancellor, to keep the peace and dispense justice within a specific jurisdiction.
