MAYORS MESSAGE March 2007 to May 2007 REPORT FROM COUNCILLOR GRAHAM NICHOLS SHANKLIN TOWN MAYOR Since my appeal in the last edition of the Shanklin Guardian, I am pleased to say that a number of residents of the town have put their names forward to be on our Town Plan Steering Group. Our first meeting was held on Friday 23rd February. Householders will shortly receive a questionnaire seeking their views on how the town should move forward over the next two decades. Included with the questionnaire will be a freepost envelope to return the document when completed which I hope will encourage a good response. Consultation on the Bay Regeneration Plan is continuing and all residents of the town should make sure that the Isle of Wight Council is aware of their views. It is important that the final version of the Plan has the ownership of all of those people and businesses that are likely to be affected. Copies of the proposals can be obtained via the Isle of Wight Council's website at http://www.iwight.com/council/committees/Mod-Executive/14-1-04/paperb.htmShanklin carnival committee asked all of the town's schools to submit designs for the float to be used by the Carnival Queen and Princesses. There was a very good response from all of the schools and I was very pleased to present the prize for the winning design to pupils of Priory School. The Carnival Committee now needs help to turn the design into reality. Spring is now with us and I look forward to a pleasant and fruitful year for the town. Graham Nichols Shanklin Town Mayor
