Luke Elkins was born in
1851 in Chalford, Westbury, Wiltshire and was one of eleven
children. He worked as a Labourer in Private Gardens
(I have yet to find out where), whilst his father
worked as a Thatcher. Luke died in 1931 aged 79.
Lucy Annie Goddard was
born in 1851 in Corsley, Wiltshire and was one of six children.
Her father worked as an Agricultural Labourer. Lucy died
in 1910 aged 59.
Below is a photo I believe to be Luke and
Lucy, take c.1900 in Westbury, Wiltshire.

Luke & Lucy
Elkins? |
In 1870 Luke's brother Frank emigrated
to America. The following year Luke traveled over with his
sister-in-law Theresa and nephew Henry Oliver Elkins, and
Lucy traveled over in 1873. Lucy and Luke married six days
after she arrived and they had two children before returning
to England five years later.

It is interesting to note that Luke states his occupation
to be a Mason when he was in fact a Gardener. Further research
revealed that his brother Frank was a member of the Mason's,
so perhaps that was what was meant? I could also be a mistake
as the occupation is dittoed from three men above.
In 1938 Frank's eldest son Henry Oliver
Elkins and his second wife Elizabeth (who took this photograph)
came over from America to visit his cousins.

by the name George.

Gardener in Private Gardens |
John was born in Oswego County, New York
America but lived there for only a few months. He worked as
a Gardener in private gardens all his life. He and his wife
Alice had five children. In 1901 John was visiting friends
in Leicester, Leicestershire. At some point he must have traveled
to Huntingdonshire where he met Alice. They moved around a
lot after that from Surrey to Huntingdonshire to Buckinghamshire
and finally Bedfordshire. Sometimes Alice was just unpacking
when they would up a move again!

Mason's Labourer [1901 Census] |
Thomas's middles name of Dallas maybe related
to his parents time spent in the USA. I don't believe he married.
Thomas was 37 when he died in 1916, a year later his younger
brother Albert died in WW1.
Thomas died during World War One and his
casualty record states:
