CARTOGRAPHER

Faithfully, I play physician
To memories bulldozed down
Hunt for snails where tended
Gardens grow, stop by the
Fence that now has left the ground
There once was a concrete sign
That was our pirate flagpost
In grass waters full of sharks
Or the puddle lake drained
Since our brave long jumps
Better than palms I know this
Place where my youth has gone
And walk softly on hallowed ground
In case I wake the dead.
