The Black Griffin wasn't much different to what the Hobgoblin is now, although there were less pictures of goblins. Evidence of the old name abounds: the old Black Griffin sign is still on the wall inside the Hobgoblin, and a painting of a black griffin syill adorns the frontage; an adjacent street bears the name Black Griffin Lane. If the Hobgoblin chain ever goes down the pan our money would be on it being renamed back to the Black Griffin.
