The Hop Poles was the furthest pub out of the city centre towards Ashford, at the far end of Wincheap. This one was ideal for the inhabitants of nearby Thanington on their way into the centre. There was a beer garden out the back, although really it formed a small corner of the car park, and the seats in front of the pub were only any good if you liked inhaling car fumes, or your a traffic surveyor. However, there was a pub parrot, which Canterbury's is now lacking!
