Merefields was a quiet wine bar, which we
didn't visit until it transformed into a typical noisy city centre pub just in
time for the World Cup in 1998 - you could say it signalled the end of the
yuppie era. When it changed its name to Scribes, it didn't really change inside
- in away it was a rebrand that just took three years to complete. Scribes
shocked Canterbury by opening a lap-dancing club on the first floor in 2006,
which was members only. This clearly wasn't enough to keep the place going, and
it closed in 2008. |
