This is the one pub we
thought would last forever - it certainly looked like it'd been there forever.
The place for sixth-formers, art students, real ale buff, live music fans and people who like pokey little wooden olde-worlde pubs. Simple Simons
was always very popular, often far too small to cope with the number of people - in the summer the beer garden helped until it
was your turn to get the beers in, with a 20 minute struggle to get back into the building.
Simples boasted a live band most nights, which
was often very good, especially when combined with happy hour (we used to
describe a pretty nasty story about too much rum and coke in our review on this
site, but we now realise it wasn't big or clever...). We'll miss Captain Birdseye, the big guy on the door. He
was the landlord and he didn't take no trouble. A Canterbury classic - we miss
it. |
