The Vauxhall Tavern was handy if you fancied a quick pint after doing the shopping at the new Asda superstore next door, but it had little else in its favour.
In the late 90s and early 00s the area around the pub changed beyond all recognition,
leaving the pub just about the only pre-1998 building left. An old-style local was a little out of place in what had become an out-of-town retail park, and it closed to become a Burger King
drive-thru, the only time this has happened. Planning law changed soon after, so
this could never happen again.
The Burger King has since closed
down, but there's no sign of the pub being returned to its former glory. |
