Jane's Alley Lyrics Page 3
The A1 road snakes its slow industrial route from London up North passing through countless urban jungles until it reaches the Tyne Valley. Here the high ground of the landscape is dominated by sculpture of monumental proportions, a bleak, rusted angelic figure that seems poised for flight. The figure looks north over Tyne valley as if surveying the promised land and ,in many ways, this seems to be true, for once that River Tyne is crossed you are entering the ancient realms of Northumberland. The industrial decay seems to slip away ,the traffic diminishes and green fields with sheep replace the factories. This is the borderland, here the pace of life is slower, people seem more friendly everywhere you look there seems to be links with an ancient past. It is this feeling that prompted us to write the song " Angel of the North" .The song is very simple in its structure as we wanted to give it a "folky" feel yet it is full of ambiguities so listeners seem to interpret it in ways that reflect their own lives and aspirations. The song features as the love theme in the movie " Tangerine Juice"
