Arthur’s Bike
|
In 2007, Adrian, from Weybridge,
and Arthur, his uncle from Dundry, cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats (see
our blog www.aalejog.org.uk
). We started on 18th June and completed the trip in 13 days. After that
ride, we thought that was it and we did not expect to repeat it. However, we
had the same urge to do the ride again, but from the other end this time,
starting at John O’Groats and finishing at Land’s End. In 2007 we raised £3,520
in sponsorship for the Children’s Hospice South West
www.chsw.org.uk and friends
encouraged us to seek sponsorship again for the same very worthy cause. We
are very pleased to say that we have raised £3,040 this year beating our
target of £3,000.
How did we get to JOG? well, we booked a flight from Bristol Airport to Inverness Airport for 7th July 2008
and from there we took the bus to Castletown, 15 miles east of JOG (after a
change at Inverness Bus Station) and our B. & B. hosts at Gills picked us up by
Land Rover and transported us and our bikes to our first night’s accommodation.
We had dismantled our bikes and boxed them for transportation on the ‘plane, ‘bus
and Land Rover, and we assembled them at our Farmhouse B. & B. ready for our
first day of cycling on Tuesday 8th July. Our journey day by day can be seen on
the 'Progress Report' Page. After we completed the ride to Land's End, we cycled
back to Penzance and caught a train to Bristol.
We are very grateful to the many people who sponsored us in 2007 and 2008.
The Children's Hospice South West has received £6,560 as a result of our
generous sponsors.
