6 May 1850  His birth certificate gives his place of birth as "William Pit", Longbenton, Tynemouth; his father as Cuthbert Charlton, Moulder, and his mother as Margaret, formerly Wrightson

1881 Census  A Moulder aged about 29 lodging in Poplar, London and born in "Newcastle".

7 August 1882   Nicholas CHARLTON married Rosetta BIGGS at Steyning [in Sussex near Worthing] His father was given as Cuthbert Charlton, a Moulder and hers as William Biggs, Labourer. The witnesses were William and Elizabeth Simmonds.

ROSETTA BIGGS was born about 1864 in Plaistow, Essex, the daughter of William and Elizabeth BIGGS

1891 Census  An Iron Moulder living in Stebondale Road in the parish of Christchurch, Poplar, London, with his wife and 6 of their children, Emily, Margaret,Cuthbert, Nicholas, Steven (sic) and Rosetta

1901 Census  An Iron Moulder living at 76, Bidder Street, in the parish of St Gabriels, West Ham, London, with his wife and 4 of their children, Nicholas, Stephen (sic), Rosetta and John.

Nicholas and Rosetta Charlton had (at least!) 8 children:
