Live at the 25th Festival of Mind, Body & Spirit - 29/05/2001
Pictures by Jeza
I have just come from the 25th Anniversary ‘Festival of Mind, Body & Spirit’ in London, where I spent the ‘best part’ of the afternoon in the company of Susan Raven and Satch Norton. In an atmosphere of essential oils, incense, shiatsu massage, meditation music and kirlean photography. Susan was booked to perform a lunchtime concert on the main stage, and another later in the week. Satch and I first recognised eachother in the crowd and went for a cup of tea and chat, whilst Susan was moving the car to another suitable parking meter.
Soon after 2pm Susan appeared onstage solo, with Satch at the mixing desk and performed to a backing track from the CD. With a colourful festival banner as a backdrop,Susan, in her new shorter haircut, performed several songs from the CD in her own glittering style. Including the title track ‘Glittering Cities’, ‘Saturn’ and ‘Stack your guns’, which closed the show, dedicated to the people of Israel. She also spoke about her influences and inspirations from the work of Rudolph Steiner. Later rejoining the ‘Rudolph Steiner stand’ at the festival, to continue her other important job for the week. We were also treated to two brand new songs, one called ‘Mandalay’ on acoustic guitar without pre-recorded backing.
Whilst the live audio quality was not as ‘controlled’ as the finished CD, and the Tuesday lunchtime crowd not as packed as the previous days performance by more famous 60’s icon Julie Felix, (an artist I’ve also met several times and share a birthday with). The concert was received very well by the crowd and several CDs sold after the show. I proudly got my personal copy signed by both.. Satch later transported the gear back to their London base as Susan and I enjoyed some frozen mango yoghurt and a chat over another hot drink. A very special day out. - JEZA *
