Club Competitions

Life is for Enjoyment and Fun

In 2005 with great enthusiasm and request of a new group of Somerset Fencers in Churchill, caused Prof. James Perry from Burnham On Sea to arrange and preside at the first “Excalibur International” Fencing Tournament which took place over the weekend at Churchill Sports Centre in Weston Super Mare. Mr. Paul Lye the Manager kindly arranged everything to make sure that the event ran smoothly and provided the transport required for the overseas visitors, with the support of the main sponsors Fraser Langdon, to whom great thanks are extended for helping to fund the beginning of what is obviously proving to be a tremendous on going event in Somerset.  Hopefully each year a local dignitary will present the trophy’s.

2006 saw the introduction of the Fraser Langdon Trophy’s to be presented annually to the first placed male and female in Epee of Excalibur International Fencing Club.

2008 was the most successful year so far with 14 teams entering from various invited clubs, Excalibur International (5), Cavaliers Dublin (3), Raven Bristol (3) & Churchill Somerset (3).

In 2009 Excalibur International Fencing Club staged it’s first Individual Club competition, the categories were mixed Cadet Sabre, Men’s & Ladies Epee.  This will now be an annual event with more age groups and weapons involved.
