I have had many years experience in the mountains developing skills in Ski-ing downhill, Langlauf, Telemark, ski-touring, mountain climbing, walking, touring, arctic survival, warfare and canoeing.
Also in the eighties I became a Mountain Leader and a Top Rope & Abseiling Supervisor qualifying at the Outward Bound Centre in Norway, I was then able to recce, organise and lead my own expeditions.
I have organised and lead many expeditions in Norway, the French, Austrian, Swiss & German Alps. The activities included mountain climbing, walking, touring, ski-ing, ski-touring, snow & ice climbing, arctic survival, arctic warfare, living in a variety of accommodation such as tents huts, tent sheets, snow holes, brushwood shelters, whatever was necessary to pursue my goals.
The winters were spent ski-ing in either the Norwegian mountains or in the Swiss, Austrian and German Alps. Activities included Langlauf, Telemark ski-ing, Downhill Ski-ing and Ski-touring, arctic survival and arctic warfare.
Part of my summers were spent in Chamonix working on the glaciers of Mont. Blanc, snow & ice climbing, also mountain climbing & touring on the higher levels of these big old mountains on top of the world !.
One of my personal favourite trips, is the route that runs the width of Switzerland, from Montreux to Sargans on the Liechtenstein border climbing a mountain peak a day, with a two day layover in Grindelwald, enjoying a little climbing on the base of the Eiger.
I was organiser and trainer for a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme open centre, where students worked towards their various awards within the scheme. I am also registered as a trainer and assessor for the expedition section of the awards and a member of the Exmoor Panel.
I still enjoy a walk in the mountains, whether on my own or with a group. If you or your friends are interested in joining me on one of my trips, please contact me. |
