The above-named man is discharged in consequence of The termination of his period of engagement (21 years) (The cause of his discharge must be worded as prescribed in the King’s Regulations and be identical with that on the Discharge certificate. If discharged by superior authority, the No. and date of the letter to be quoted.)

Conduct and character while with the Colours, have been, according to the records, etc. Exemplary (This will be assessed , when practicable, by the Commanding Officer, in the presence of the Soldier and the Officer Commanding his company. See King’s Regulations for terms to be employed. No additional character To be given on discharge from Reserve.) 4. Special qualifications for employment in civil life. have been entitled to had he not been promoted should be stated.)

Board, a memorandum for his guidance on Army Form D. 401, and will at the same time transmit to the Under
Secretary of State for War a Descriptive Return of the Man on Army Form D. 400
