A shot showing two Re6/6 hauled trains taking part in the hourly ritual at Arth Goldau. In this example the train on the left is a Basel - Chiasso service via Luzern whilst the one on the right is the IC "Ticino" from Zürich to Milano. Both trains are scheduled to arrive within a few minutes of each other and after the connection has been made the faster train will head for the Gotthard with the other following 3 minutes later. A similar connection involving northbound trains takes place 10 minutes later. |

An Re10/10 combination passing through the station with a southbound freight carrying swap bodies and containers. The invitation, from one of the SBB duty controllers, to visit the signalling control centre was a pleasant and much appreciated surprise and is an indication of the pride that the Swiss have in their railways. |

(See next photo) The train is running on what would normally be the northbound track in order to allow faster traffic to pass it. |

In August 1992 a series of wheel wear tests were carried out on the Gotthard southern ramp using a special train powered by two Re460 locos. The train is seen here hauled by 460.052 (with 460.024 at the rear) entering one of the station loops. The 9 car train had Eurofima cars from Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. |

Re4/4 lll no.11351 waiting to return north after assisting a freight over the steeply graded section from Giubiasco. The number and SBB/CFF/FFS lettering on this loco is painted instead of the more usual cast metal. This is because it was owned by the SOB between 1985 and 1994 and was returned to SBB service as part of the Re4/4 lV exchange deal. A close examination of the bodyside shows where the SOB nameplate has been removed. |
